Happy birthday to us !
Zamzar is celebrating its first birthday today !
For the curious amongst you, we share our birthday with a little known beach footballer, a car mechanic and a chap who enjoyed writing.
Since we launched the site a year ago we’ve added support for a whole host of new file formats and have enjoyed every minute of converting your files

We’ve just added the ability to convert between various compressed file formats using Zamzar – This can be helpful if you get stuck with a zip format that you can’t open.
Zamzar now supports conversion from the following formats below to any of the others on the list:
- 7z – 7-Zip Compressed File
- tar.bz2 – Bzip 2 UNIX Compressed File
- cab – Cabinet File
- lzh – Compressed Archive File
- rar – WinRAR Compressed Archive
- tar – Gzip Compressed Archive
- yz1 – DeepFreezer Compressed Archive
- zip – Compressed Archive File

Convert pptx files to ppt, odp, html, pcx, pdf, png, ps and swf

Great news ! We’ve been working hard here at Zamzar to round out our support for Microsoft Office 2007 files, and we’re pleased to announce that you can now use Zamzar to convert “pptx” files generated by Office 2007 to a variety of different formats, including “ppt” (enabling you to view and edit your presentations in older versions of Microsoft Office) and “odp” (allowing you to use OpenOffice).
A variety of other formats are also supported, enabling you to convert your pptx files into whatever format is most useful for the program that you happen to be working in. The full list of supported formats is below:
- html – Hypertext Markup Language
- odp – OpenDocument presentation
- pdf – Portable Document Format
- png – Portable Network Graphic
- ppt – Microsoft Powerpoint Presentation
- ps – Postscript document
- swf – Macromedia Flash Format File

Convert xlsx files to xls, ods, csv, doc, html, mdb, pdf, rtf and xml

You can now use Zamzar to convert “xlsx” files generated by Microsoft Office 2007 to a variety of different formats, including plain old “xls” (enabling you to view and edit your spreadsheets in older versions of Microsoft Office) and “ods” (allowing you to use OpenOffice). Conversion happens online and is completely free !
The new 2007 “xlsx” format is based on open XML standards, but is incompatible with older versions of Excel. To get round this problem you can simply head over to Zamzar to perform conversions from “xlsx” to any one of the following formats:
- csv – Comma Separated Values file
- doc – Microsoft Word Doc
- html – Hypertext Markup Language
- mdb – Microsoft Access Database
- ods – OpenDocument spreadsheet
- pdf – Portable Document Format
- rtf – Rich text format
- xls – Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet
- xml – Extensible Markup Language
