We had a small issue with our email infrastrucutre over the weekend which resulted in some of you not correctly receiving email notification of your converted files.

The good news is that we’ve ironed out the problems and service has been back to normal as of late Sunday evening (GMT). Apologies to those of you who converted files over the weekend and did not receive email notifications of your file links.

It’s been a while since the last post and we thought we’d give you a quick update from Zamzar HQ. As you may have noticed we’ve been rolling out some new ads on the site over the past few days - these are designed to allow us to keep providing you with a great free file conversion service.

We also launched a page to allow you to buy us lunch if you’ve enjoyed using the service over the past 6 months

In other news, we have some great new features planned over the coming months to help enhance your file conversion experience - stay tuned for further news and updates. Why not post a comment and tell us what you’d love to see ?

Ever been on a video sharing website and thought “If only I could convert that video into a format I could keep” ? Well look no further - We’ve just launched a whole host of new features to allow you to convert files from URLs, including all your favourite video websites. Zamzar now lets you:

• Convert files from a URL on the Internet
• Integrate Zamzar into your web browser using the Zamzar browser button
• Convert videos directly from sites such as YouTube, Google Video, Revver and many more.

It’s been a great start to the new year here at Zamzar - Popular Web 2.0 blogger Dion Hinchcliffe has just profiled the best Web 2.0 software from 2006 and has given Zamzar an “Honorable Mention”:

Thanks Dion ! We’re excited about 2007, and are looking forward to making our service even better - we’ve got a bundle of new ideas and conversion formats up our sleeves and we can’t wait to share them with you.

Phew ! Digg has a lot to answer for - it’s been keeping the hamsters that run our servers earning their feed keeping up with the traffic that’s been coming in. It’s always an honour to get a mention on Digg, but something of a challenge as well

So just to say, please bear with us over the next few hours - We will honour all your conversion requests as quickly as we can, but it may take a little longer than usual - sorry.

Oh, and just to clear up a few of the comments from Digg:

• As stated in our privacy policy, we absolutely DO NOT sell, spam or market your email addresses to anyone.
• The files you upload and convert are yours alone. Again, we DO NOT sell them, forward them, archive them or otherwise use them. The only time Zamzar goes near them is to honour any support enquiries you have.
• We are still in Beta, and we’re adding more features to the site all the time. If there’s stuff you’d like to see then just let us know

We’re into day 5 of the Zamzar odyssey, and here at Zamzar HQ we’ve been working hard to make your file conversion experience as smooth as possible.

As well as fixing the bugs you’ve reported, we’ve been listening to all your requests for new conversion types. Please do keep sending them in - they help us to know what matters to you ! We’ve also enjoyed reading your feedback … one of our favourites so far is shown here (from Lifehacker):

Finally, it was nice to get a hat-tip from the folks over at Wired, who road-tested the Zamzar site this week - thanks guys.

Zamzar continues to be well received - We’ve had comments from bloggers as far afield as France, Russia and Japan. We run all the posts through translation software and enjoy hearing the feedback you’re giving - thanks guys

As you know we are in Beta at the moment, and we’re experiencing the odd buglet here and there, particularly with some of the video conversions. Please do contact our support team if you find something amiss, and we’ll try and put it right as quickly as possible.

FYI - We’ve had to temporarily pull support for swf conversions. As soon as they’re back we’ll let you know.
