You’re supporting some fantastic charities!

Did you know that by converting your files with a paid Zamzar account, you’re financially supporting local, national and global charities that are doing some incredible work? Part of each of your subscription payments is helping to ensure they can continue the vital work they do in communities. Pretty cool, eh?

Not only that, you can have a say in which great causes we support! Find out how you can get involved, below.

Our charitable giving initiative

When we started Zamzar, our mission was ‘to provide high-quality file conversion for as many file formats as possible’. And while we’re still determined to offer the best file-processing software we can, we want to help make the world a better place along the way too. So, since 2012, we’ve been committed to regular charitable giving, supporting dozens of worthy causes each year. We currently donate at least 2% of our company profits each month to individual charities and non-profits, to contribute towards the great work they’re doing.

Over the last year, with your support, we’ve been able to donate to some fantastic charities. Here’s a selection of some of the non-profits we’ve been able to help:

Hospice charities 🏡

Naomi House and Jacksplace: These hospices for children and young adults are located near to Zamzar’s company home, and they’ve cared for over 1,000 children since they opened in 1997. Supporting families across central southern England, they provide valuable nursing care, respite care, play and music therapy, hydrotherapy, end-of-life care, bereavement support and more.

Havens Hospices: Helping families in Essex (south-east England) and the surrounding boroughs, Havens Hospices offers tailored care and assistance to those living with incurable conditions. Their teams provide support both within their hospices and in the community, with life-enhancing therapies, wellbeing services, practical advice and counselling, in addition to nursing care.

Heart health charities ❤️‍🩹

Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY): According to CRY, at least 12 young people die each week in the UK due to undiagnosed heart conditions. This charity’s focus is on preventing young sudden cardiac deaths by increasing awareness, offering subsidised screening tests and funding research. They also provide support to young people living with a heart condition, and to families who have lost a young person from sudden cardiac death.

Carli Lansley Foundation: Set up in memory of Carli Lansley, who passed away from Sudden Arrythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) at the age of 36, this charitable foundation raises funds to cover the cost of ECG screenings (run by CRY, mentioned above) for young people in Southend (south-east England). They also work in partnership with other local organisations to offer free CPR and defibrillator training to local residents.

Cancer charities 🔬

Skin Cancer Research Fund: Skin cancer is a very prevalent cancer, with malignant melanoma being the most aggressive and life-threatening type. The Skin Cancer Research Fund has been working since 1979 to raise funds for research and to increase awareness of the condition, with over £1,000,000 (about $1,300,000) spent on research so far. Their research work has already impacted how skin cancer is managed today.

Young Lives vs Cancer: Focused on helping children, teenagers and young adults with cancer get the help and support they need, this organisation offers a range of services to young people and their families. From information, advice and financial support (including help with family accommodation close to hospitals), to nursing care, educational assistance, and bereavement help, they aim to provide the right support at the right time.

Other medical charities 🩺

Epilepsy Action: This national charity strives to support a better life for people affected by epilepsy. As well as working to raising awareness of the condition and funding vital research, Epilepsy Action provides practical advice and support through its website, helpline, counselling service, support groups and befriending scheme. Their vision is ‘a world without limits for people with epilepsy’.

Southampton Hospitals Charity: University Hospital Southampton is the leading healthcare provider for the south coast of England, and Southampton Hospitals Charity works to raise funds to enhance the care of patients at the hospital. Supporting aspects of hospital service that are beyond the scope of the NHS, this charitable organisation focuses on investing in patient support, creating more welcoming clinical environments, and funding the best technologies and research programmes.

Global charities 🌎

Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF): Founded in 1990, EFF is the leading nonprofit defending privacy, innovation, and free speech in the digital world. They’re involved in policy analysis, activism, education, impact litigation, and development of technology, with expertise from specialist attorneys, activists and technologists. Over the years they’ve succeeded in winning lawsuits against major corporations and federal government, in order to protect individuals’ civil liberties.

World Vision: With over 70 years of experience, World Vision is committed to helping vulnerable children of all backgrounds overcome poverty. To date, they’ve worked in nearly 100 countries, including places of conflict and crisis, and supported 200 million children with water, food, and education. They work with an emphasis on sustainable impact – tackling the root causes of poverty and helping communities become independent and self-supporting.

How can you get involved?

The charities we’ve supported over the years have been chosen by the Zamzar team, with our founders and employees taking turns to select causes close to their hearts. But we’d love for you to be involved too!

Is there a charity that’s especially meaningful to you, or that you’d love to see get more recognition and support? Perhaps an organisation that’s helped you or your family, or that operates in your local community? We love supporting non-profits of all sizes – just check that the organisation has registered charitable or non-profit status in your country.

If there’s a charity you’d like us to consider, simply drop us an email and we’ll review whether it might be suitable for us to support.

Thanks for helping us to make a difference!
