Convert BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, TIFF to WebP

Convert BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, TIFF to WebP using ZamzarAt Zamzar we’re always keen to support newly released file formats and we’re pleased to announce that from today we now support image file conversions both to and from Google’s newly released WebP format.

Google is on a mission to make the web faster – images and photos make up about 65% of the bytes transmitted per web page today, and the new WebP format is an attempt to try and reduce the size of those images – WebP is a method of lossy compression that can be applied to photographic images to make them smaller, without sacrificing too much quality. It offers compression that has shown almost 40% more byte-size efficiency than JPEG for the same quality of image in a large scale study of 900,000 images on the Web. If these images or a portion of these images were held as WebP, bandwidth would be greatly reduced without loss of image quality.

We’re therefore pleased to say you can now use Zamzar to convert these formats both to and from WebP for all of the following formats :

    • bmp – Windows bitmap
    • emf – Windows Enhanced Metafile
    • gif – Compuserve graphics interchange
    • jpg – JPEG compliant image
    • pcx – PC Paintbrush Bitmap Graphic
    • png – Portable Network Graphic
    • tga – Truevision Targa Graphic
    • tiff – Tagged image file format
    • wbmp – Wireless Bitmap File Format

We hope these conversions will be useful to those of you who want to use the new WebP image technology from Google in your web pages or applications.

Happy converting,
The Zamzar Team
