Update [05/05/2010 19:09 GMT]:
We’ve had teething problems with some of our eBook conversions, so have had to temporarily stop them. They should be back soon though – we’ll post here when they are.

Calling all bookworms … we love to support new conversion types at Zamzar and we’re excited to announce a major new addition – eBooks.

There are a huge number of eBook formats and Zamzar now gives you a one stop shop to convert between them – all online and all for free.

An eBook (short for electronic book, a.k.a. digital book, ebook, and eBook) is an electronic text version of a conventional printed book. Usually read on dedicated hardware devices known as e-Readers or eBook devices (Amazon Kindle, Apple iPad), PC’s and some phones can also be used to read eBooks. With the advent of these eBook readers most developed their own specialised eBook file format, fragmenting the eBook market.

As part of our ongoing mission to bring order to your filesystem, Zamzar is aiming to make it as easy as possible for you to convert between all these different eBook file types.

You can now convert a whole variety of eBook formats and we plan to offer more in the coming weeks:

  • cbz – Comic Book ZIP Archive
  • cbr – Comic Book RAR Archive
  • cbc – eBook format
  • chm – Compiled HTML Help File
  • epub – Open eBook File
  • fb2 – FictionBook 2.0 File
